Each September at An Evening with the Stars, we celebrate the best in Johns Hopkins Nursing as chosen by the best in Hopkins Nursing. Many nurses are nominated, but many more are worthy of that honor. Beginning this week, their supervisors, peers, and students can begin nominating nurses worthy of joining the galaxy of Shining Stars in 2015.
The nomination period opens May 11 and runs through July 3 for the Shining Star Awards, which for the first time include a category for Nurse Preceptor, a vital and unsung link to quality nursing care. Nominations recognize excellence in patient care, mentorship, community outreach, or education.
The other Shining Star categories are Student Nurse and Faculty Nurse from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Hospital Nurse (two awardees) from The Johns Hopkins Hospital and its affiliates: All Children’s Hospital (in St. Petersburg, FL), Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Howard County General Hospital, Sibley Hospital, and Suburban Hospital. Hospital Nurse winners from 2014 were Genieveve Cline, DNP, RN, of All Children’s and Morning Gutierrez, RN, of Bayview. The faculty winner was Tener Goodwin Veenema, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, and Cliff Thornton, MSN, RN, was the student star.
Each finalist and a guest will receive complimentary tickets to An Evening with the Stars, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015. The gala brings together students, faculty, alumni, hospital leaders, and friends of nursing for a night of mingling and embracing the past, present, and future of Johns Hopkins Nursing.
