Johns Hopkins Nursing Shining Star Award

NOMINATION PERIOD

May 6 - August 28, 2017

The Shining Star Award honors outstanding nurses in the Hopkins community including nurse preceptors, faculty and student nurses at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

Hospital NURSE NOMINEES

(nominations accepted from peers, physicians, students, and staff)

Hopkins nurses who demonstrate clinical excellence in their area of nursing to improve the quality of patient care and has made a significant difference to the nursing profession. Hospital nurse nominees must have at least one year experience at a Johns Hopkins-affiliated hospital.

Finalists

  • Demonstrate clinical excellence in their area of nursing practice.
  • Use clinical expertise to advance the scope of nursing practice.
  • Use creative approaches to improve quality of care.
  • Excel in a mentorship or preceptor role.
  • Have at least one year experience at a Hopkins-affiliated hospital.
  • Serve as a shining example of Johns Hopkins Nursing through word, deed, and attitude.

Community Outreach NURSE NOMINEES

(nominations accepted from peers, physicians, students, and staff)

Hopkins nurses who are committed to engage within local community outreach health care programs. Hospital nurse nominees must have at least one year experience at a Johns Hopkins-affiliated hospital.

FINALISTS

  • Demonstrate clinical excellence in their area of nursing practice.
  • Engage within local community outreach health care programs
  • Use creative approaches to improve quality of care within the community.
  • Have at least one year experience at a Hopkins-affiliated hospital.
  • Serve as a shining example of Johns Hopkins Nursing through word, deed, and attitude.

Preceptor Nominees

(nominations accepted from peers, faculty, physicians, students, and staff)

Current preceptors who demonstrate commitment in mentoring students on 1:1 basis, provide nursing students the opportunity to assess patients, and promote critical thinking and clinical decision making are eligible for nomination. Nominees must have a consistent record of precepting Johns Hopkins School of Nursing students for at least three years and be employed at a Johns Hopkins-affiliated entity.

Finalists

  • Demonstrate clinical excellence in their area of nursing practice
  • Demonstrate leadership to advance the regulation or practice of nursing
  • Have a consistent record of precepting Johns Hopkins School of Nursing students for at least three years
  • Are currently employed at a Johns Hopkins-affiliated entity
  • Serve as a shining example of Johns Hopkins Nursing through word, deed, and attitude

Student Nurse Nominees

(nominations accepted from faculty, students, and staff)

Current students who exemplify leadership within the classroom or student organizations, participate in community outreach efforts through healthcare initiatives and exhibit outstanding patient care in their clinical rotations are eligible for nomination.

Finalists

  • Demonstrate excellence in scholarship
  • Perform significant, meritorious, compassionate service to Hopkins patients, patient families, or the Hopkins community
  • Serve as a shining example of Johns Hopkins Nursing through word, deed, and attitude

Faculty Nurse Nominees

(nominations accepted from peers, faculty, students and staff)

Current faculty who demonstrate excellence in teaching patient care, look for innovative ways to engage students and peers in local and global community healthcare programs, and connect with students through nursing organizations and activities are eligible for nomination. Faculty nominees must have served at least one year as Johns Hopkins School of Nursing faculty.

Finalists

  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching
  • Use creative approaches to advance nursing research, practice, and teaching by expanding and/or communicating the nursing knowledge base
  • Excel as a mentor and guide to students
  • Have served at least one year on the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing faculty
  • Serve as a shining example of Johns Hopkins Nursing through word, deed, and attitude

Nominate a Nurse by August 28

Each winner and their guest are invited to “An Evening with the Stars,” a celebration held at The Center Club on Saturday, November 11. Winners will be announced by October 1 and will be recognized at the ceremony.
