Dimensions of Nursing – Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing is committed to highlighting the experiences, research, and practice of various identities belonging to our nursing community. It is a priority for us to amplify the voices belonging to underrepresented communities while providing equitable and accessible opportunities for education and healthcare within our Nursing programs.
For this month, we are Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride Month at JHSON. Each month will highlight diverse and unique populations within our community. Alexander Murphy, assistant director of Admissions for diversity initiatives and recruitment, will facilitate a discussion among current students and faculty who are involved in advocacy and policy from a nursing perspective.

1:30-2:15PM – SON Townhall
Our SON Townhall will be a budget and planning forum for SON staff members. Faculty recently had a similar forum. There will be a brief presentation followed by discussion and Q&A. Staff are encouraged to submit questions in advance of the forum via our Townhall survey.

Dean Szanton Joins Research!America Board of Directors
Congratulations to Dean Sarah Szanton, recently elected to the board of directors of Research!America, a nonprofit alliance that advocates for science, discovery, and innovation to achieve better health for all! Joining Dr. Szanton as new board members are Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, endowed professor of medicine and professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco, and editor in chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and the JAMA Network, and Garth Graham, director and global head of health care and public health for Google/YouTube. Each will serve a three-year term.
“Our Alliance will benefit greatly from their leadership, expertise, and insights,” said Research!America President and CEO Mary Woolley. “I’m looking forward to working with them to champion medical and public health research and innovation.”

The 2025 Johns Hopkins ICU Rehab Conference (November 6-7, Turner Auditorium, 720 Rutland Avenue) will be focused on updates from the past year in adult ICU rehabilitation and will include poster, workshop, and networking sessions. Co-sponsored by JHSON.

Please join us in congratulating Sam Curriero, the recipient of the 2025 Commitment to Excellence Award—an annual honor that recognizes the exceptional contributions of full-time JHSON staff members who embody outstanding performance, initiative, integrity, and a deep commitment to excellence.
As a senior research program coordinator in the Center for Equity in Aging, Sam is responsible for monitoring, collecting, and organizing research data across multiple studies. Sam was nominated by colleagues who highlighted her unwavering dedication, positive leadership, and consistently excellent work. Congratulations also to ouroutstanding runners-up: Trevor Mitchell, Christine Baltimore, and Alexander Murphy.
