Application Process

Student Financial Services aims to make applying for financial aid as seamless as possible so the process consists of two items:

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To ensure we receive your information include our school code: E00476.

  • The SON Student Aid Application. Individuals can only access and complete this document after being accepted the School of Nursing and logging in to Student Information System (SIS).

Once we have received your information, we will review it for completeness. If additional information is needed we will contact you directly. If all information is complete, we will provide an award to you. Awards are sent to students on Friday of each week. Students must reapply annually for financial aid and the application is valid for one year. If you are a continuing student and applied for aid in the previous academic year, we will automatically email you instructions on reapplying the following year. Both current and prospective students have access to our office year round by email, phone, or in person. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

New for 2024-25: FAFSA Application Changes

The FAFSA Simplification Act brought changes to the FAFSA application. Learn more about what that means for your application.

January 31, 2024 Update: Due to technical difficulties with accessing the FAFSA, the timeline and some application deadlines have been extended. Visit your school’s financial aid pages below to learn more.

There will be a delay between the date you submit the FAFSA and when we receive it. Hopkins will not be able to confirm receipt until early April. If you have submitted the FAFSA, please check the To-Do List on the Financial Aid tab in SIS in for confirmation of receipt. Your aid will not be jeopardized if the receipt is not confirmed until after the due date.

For Maryland residents only: The Maryland Higher Education Commission has extended the Maryland financial aid deadline to submit the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to June 1, 2024. However, students are encouraged to submit the FAFSA by the priority deadline of March 1, 2024 to receive notification of eligibility by April 15, 2024.

Deadlines

Applicants are encouraged to meet deadlines when applying for aid. Meeting the deadlines provides ample time for our office to process your information and consequently provide an award in timely fashion. Timely awards are critical because it gives students the opportunity to make an informed decision in advance of enrolling. Deadlines for each respective term can be found below

Federal Verification

Applicants who are selected for federal verification must submit all required verification documents such as the Verification Worksheet, federal income tax returns and any other requested documentation to the Financial Aid Office before an aid award can be finalized. Documentation must be submitted by the posted application deadline for the term of enrollment.

Income for applicants selected for federal verification must be validated by the IRS. Applicants must use the IRS Data Retrieval process to electronically retrieve and transfer their income information to complete their FAFSA. Applicants that make changes to the transferred information or are unable to use the IRS Data Retrieval process must provide the Financial Aid Office with an IRS Tax Return Transcript.

Note:  Additional documentation may be requested in order to clarify the applicant’s status.
