Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Named 2019 Best Schools for Men in Nursing

or

The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) has been named a 2019 Best Schools for Men in Nursing by the American Association for Men in Nursing (AAMN). It is being recognized for its history, consistency, quality, and commitment to creating an inclusive environment for men who are becoming professional nurses.

“This is a proud moment to be recognized for our efforts as we strive to provide a diverse environment to educate future nursing leaders of all genders,” says Dean of JHSON Patricia Davidson, PhD, MEd, RN, FAAN. “As the profession broadens its scope and innovation, it is vital to also expand the diversity and inclusion of its workforce to meet healthcare needs around the globe.”

JHSON will be formally honored at the 44th Annual AAMN Conference in Orlando, Florida on October 31.

Ranked No. 1 for its Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), and online programs by U.S. News & World Report, JHSON is committed to improving the health of individuals and diverse communities locally and globally through leadership and excellence in nursing education, research, practice, and service. The school has continued to make strategic investments in program offerings, launching state-of-the-art online options, and most recently announcing a track to prepare nurse anesthetists at the doctoral level.

“The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing has made a commitment to increase diversity and gender in particular,” AAMN Recognition Review Committee Chair Bonnie Schmidt, PhD, RN, CNE, quoted from the reviewers’ summary. “In all categories of the AAMN Best Schools Evaluation Rubric, JHSON has met or exceeded all criteria.”

As part of its strategic plan for 2020, JHSON focuses on five initiatives including collaboration and interprofessional education, practice, research, and policy; excellence in research, scholarship, teaching, and practice; diversity, inclusion, and equity; capacity building in community and global health; and development of inspiring, engaged, and connected environments.

“Our entire JHSON community should feel proud to receive this recognition,” said Dean Davidson. “It serves as a model for 21st century nursing.”
