Overview

Brenda Douglass, a nursing leader with over 30 years of experience, began her career at the bedside specializing in emergency nursing. She brings forth a unique perspective as a faculty educator and clinician with a robust career trajectory assimilating academic, clinical, leadership, and administrative roles. Among her previous experience in academia, she launched administrative roles from inception serving as a DNP program director, coordinator of clinical faculty, and coordinator of graduate nursing adjunct faculty. In the clinical arena, her expertise spans the health of individuals and populations across acute and community settings. As a family nurse practitioner, she has practiced in various areas including primary care, cardiopulmonary, sleep medicine, endocrinology, retail health clinic, and innovative care models. Collectively in all roles and settings, she has brought a passion for nursing and education. She has been committed to preventative wellness and positively impacting outcomes in chronic disease prevention and management. Dr. Douglass believes it is essential for nurse leaders in contemporary health care to be well equipped for complex care environments. As an educator, she leverages her wealth of knowledge and skillset in preparing future clinicians to deliver evidence-based care and optimize health outcomes. She serves as a catalyst to develop aspiring nurses for critically needed practice and leadership roles with an eye toward technologies and future innovations. Dr. Douglass has served extensively as a mentor, preceptor, and advisor supporting students and colleagues. She holds roles on national committees and in venues addressing advance practice issues. In addition to her academic role, she maintains an active practice in endocrinology & metabolic disorders and serves patients also for primary care. Dr. Douglass is a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS).
