The lectureship honors the legacy of Dr. Eleanor Stokes Szanton, a trailblazer in early childhood development research.

Dr. Eleanor Stokes Szanton was the founding Executive Director of The National Center for Clinical Infant Programs. Now called ZERO TO THREE, the organization is committed to utilizing and translating early childhood research into resources for families, policymakers, and professionals to impact the lives of young children.

Dr. Brenda Jones Harden is a leading scholar whose work is dedicated to improving the lives of families and young children who have experienced adversity. The lectureship will provide space to learn from Dr. Harden and connect with students, faculty, and community members.

Shining a Light on Caregiving Youth

In the U.S., over 6 million youth under 18 years of age provide care to family members affected by chronic illness, disability, mental health conditions, or aging-related health problems. On September 22, 2025, the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Center for Child and Youth Health and the Center for Equity in Aging, welcomed alumna Dr. Connie Siskowski, founder and president of the American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY) to lead the symposium, “Caregiving Youth: A Call to Action for Research, Education, and Policy.” She was joined by a panel featuring Drs. Katherine Miller, Catherine Ling, Eliana Perrin, Debbie Gross, and Katherine Ornstein. The symposium stressed the long-term health and economic impacts of early caregiving and the importance of embedding compassion and listening into clinical training.
