Listed below are the estimated costs (USD) for each program. Indirect expenses are estimates based on average costs. Actual costs may vary. For planning purposes, a 2 – 3% increase should be anticipated each year.
The Johns Hopkins University provides student account information using SIS (Student Information System) at sis.jhu.edu/sswf/. This website allows students to view their accounts, make online payments, and update information. The self-service system will automatically send an email notification to the student’s JHSON email address when a new bill is ready to be viewed online. Each registered student is automatically enrolled. It is the student’s responsibility to check their student account and pay their tuition promptly. Paper bills are no longer mailed to enrolled students.
For tuition due dates for degree and certificate students, please see School of Nursing billing dates. Special and prerequisite students must pay at time of registration.

Additional Costs
Application
Students apply to the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing masters, doctoral, and post-degree certificate programs via NursingCAS, the centralized application service for nursing. NursingCAS application fee information is available on their website at http://www.nursingcas.org/how-to-apply/. The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing does not charge a supplemental (or school-specific) application fee in addition to the NursingCAS application fee.
Deposit
A non-refundable $500 deposit ($1,000 for DNP Nurse Anesthesia) is required of all students accepted for admission. The deposit will be credited to the student’s account. MasterCard and Visa are accepted.
Matriculation
A fee of $500 is payable on or before the date that a student enters the School of Nursing as a regular matriculated degree candidate. Special students who later become degree candidates will be assessed the matriculation fee at that time.
Printing Fees
Students will be given a bimonthly quota of 250 free prints. The free quota will be reset every 2 months starting January 1, March 1, May 1, July 1, September 1, and November 1. Any prints over the 250 quota will be charged to the student account at $.04 per page.
Self-Service Internet Student Information System
Johns Hopkins University offers students online student account information through Student Billing Self-Service (SIS). SIS allows students to view their account, make online payments, and update information related to their student account.
SIS is also the official means of generating tuition bills to School of Nursing students. Paper bills will no longer be mailed to enrolled students. New students receive a one-time paper bill and instructions to activate their SIS self-service account. The self-service system will automatically send an email notification to the student’s school email address when a new bill is ready to be viewed online. Start using SIS
Student Health Insurance
All matriculated students must be covered by a current health insurance plan. The University provides information about its student health insurance plan for students who are not covered under another plan. Students who do not purchase the University insurance must provide proof of enrollment in a comparable plan each semester. All full-time matriculated students will pay a $850 annual health services fee and have unrestricted access to all services at University Health Services.
Part-time students may pay $850 per year to access these services.
Supplies
Pre-licensure students must purchase a number of supplies including uniforms, a stethoscope, and an aneroid, adult-size blood pressure cuff. Students enrolled in nurse practitioner options should expect to purchase some diagnostic equipment during the first year.
Late Registration
Students who for any reason do not complete registration until after the prescribed registration period are required to pay a $50 late-registration service fee before being finalized by the registrar. Information about what constitutes late registration and the applicable fee is included in registration materials distributed by the Registrar’s Office.
Late Fees
The University assesses a 1.50% per month late fee charge on the unpaid balance for any student whose account is in arrears. Students who have unpaid balances from a previous semester will not be allowed to register for subsequent semesters. Fees associated with delinquent accounts sent to collections will be passed on to the student.
Transcripts/Diplomas
There is no charge for transcripts. No transcript will be released if the student has an unpaid account balance. Diplomas will not be released to students with unpaid student account balances.
Miscellaneous Fees
State Board Licensure Examination Fees
The Maryland State Board examinations for registered nurse licensure are offered regularly throughout the year. The current fee for the Maryland State Board is $100, and the current fee for the National Council Licensure examination is $200. The Office of Student Services provides all the necessary registration forms for students wishing to take the examination in Maryland. Students who plan to take the examination in another state should contact the appropriate nursing board office for registration forms.
Returned Check Fee
A $25 service fee will be assessed for any returned check.
Refunds & Billing
Students with special circumstances
Students with special circumstances for unanticipated expenses (see the FA-Budget Adjustment Request Form for examples) can request a budget adjustment to their cost of attendance that may allow for additional federal loan borrowing eligibility. Budget Adjustment Requests must have supporting documentation such as receipts. Request for housing increases will only be approved if there is a special circumstance. Examples of housing special circumstances includes having to live alone due to a medical condition or having to live in a certain school district due to a court order.
