Asma Rayani is a medical graduate from Karachi, Pakistan, who recently completed her Master of Science in Epidemiology from the Bloomberg School of Public Health, specializing in cardiovascular and clinical epidemiology. During her master’s program, Asma was actively involved in research and community initiatives aimed at promoting health equity and preventive care. She contributed to projects that focused on addressing cardiovascular health disparities, particularly within underserved populations. Her dedication to advancing women’s health and commitment to academic excellence led to her induction into the Delta Omega Honor Society in Public Health and the receipt of the Trudy Bush Fund award.
As a recipient of the CaRING Program, Asma was honored with the University Ring, an award presented by the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Relations Office to alumni and graduating students who make significant contributions to the school community and foster positive change. She earned this distinction for her advocacy in promoting neurodiversity in classroom environments and encouraging open dialogues around inclusivity and accessibility.
Currently, Asma is a postdoctoral research fellow under the mentorship of Dr. Yvonne Commodore-Mensah at the School of Nursing, where her primary research project is the SAFE HEART Women Study. Her research interests encompass cardiometabolic and kidney diseases, health disparities and equity, community-based approaches, the application of technology for disease prevention, patient-physician communication, and aging. Asma aspires to pursue a career as a clinician-scientist, working at the intersection of clinical practice and clinical science research.
Outside of her research, Asma enjoys experimenting with new recipes, reading, engaging in arts and crafts, and singing as a hobby.
