The Learning Collaborative:
Renée Matsuyama is the Manager of The Learning Collaborative at JHSON. She moved to Baltimore in the summer of 2018, after having spent several years running a college women’s center in Minnesota. Originally from the West Coast, Renée attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she earned degrees in both English and Student Affairs. In addition to student services administration, Renée also has extensive experience in teaching, writing consultation, and general student support and advising. When she’s not at work, Renée enjoys weightlifting, cooking, and exploring all the interesting, weird, and fun things to do in Baltimore.
Evan Loker, PhD
Evan has tutored at TLC since 2020, where he also leads DNP programming and events. A California native, he earned his PhD in English from Johns Hopkins University and has taught scholarly writing at every level. Evan helps students develop writing processes that build on their individual strengths, with the goal of making their writing effective, confident, and authentic.
Joseph Schaub, PhD
Joseph is first and foremost a writer. With 18 peer-reviewed publications, he has considerable experience producing effective academic writing. He has also taught writing at the undergraduate and graduate level. Joseph received his PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Masters in Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins. He has been tutoring at The Learning Collaborative since 2024.
