Mental Health Care in Ghana
The Johns Hopkins Center for Global Mental Health is excited to host Angela Ofori-Atta at 4:30 pm March 13 at the Welch Medical Library-West Reading Room, 1900 E. Monument St. Her seminar: “Optimizing sociocultural resources to extend mental health care: evidence, digital mental health, and spirituality in Ghana.”
Professor Ofori-Atta is the chairperson of the Ghana Psychology Council, a practicing clinical psychologist, a researcher, and former head of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Ghana Medical School. Her research focuses on culturally appropriate service delivery in mental health, including introducing a digital psychosocial intervention (mHealer) paired with a psychiatric nurse (mobile nurse) that enables healers in prayer camps to use evidence-based psychosocial care.

The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing is committed to highlighting the experiences, research, and practice of various identities belonging to our nursing community. It is a priority for us to amplify the voices belonging to underrepresented communities while providing equitable and accessible opportunities for education and healthcare within our Nursing programs.
For this month, our Diversity Dimensions virtual session, 3-4 pm Wednesday, March 26, will speak about First-Generation Student Success and Support at the School of Nursing. Each month will highlight diverse and unique populations within our community. Alexander Murphy, assistant director of Admissions for diversity initiatives and recruitment, will facilitate how first-generation students find success and support during their academic journey.
