Karen Morin, DNS, RN, ANEF, president of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), is this year’s speaker at the STTI Nu Beta Chapter Founders’ Day celebration.
Morin, who is a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and its director of graduate programs, leads STTI with the vision, “Connecting Through Knowledge for Global Health,” and hopes to accomplish this through four areas: Creating Welcoming Environments, Enhancing Knowledge Resources and Networks, Contributing to Global Health, and Creating a Legacy of Personal Leadership. “My dream is that we continue to create an environment that excites current members, entices others to join STTI, and builds on these four areas of focus,” Morin said.
Since becoming a member, Morin has served in numerous chapter-, regional-, and international-level positions, including chapter president, chapter secretary, consortium coordinator, Region 6 communications counterpart, and grant/abstract reviewer. In addition to being a Virginia Henderson Sigma Theta Tau and Billye Brown Fellow, she has served as faculty in STTI and Johnson & Johnson Maternal-Child Health Leadership Academy Planning Committee, as well as the Board Leadership and Mentored Leadership programs.
Founders’ Day is an annual celebration of the values of Sigma Theta Tau, excellence, scholarship, leadership, and service. This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the International Year of the Nurse celebration. The Founders’ Day celebration takes place October 12 at 6:00 pm at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Room 140 (Alumni Auditorium). A reception will follow in the Carpenter Room.
