Cynthia Foronda, PhD, RN, CNE, assistant professor and facilitator in the simulation labs at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON), continues to break out as a nursing educator and researcher.
Recently awarded the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation & Learning’s Excellence in Research Award for her work in virtual simulation, she was also selected to be a 2015 inductee of the National League for Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education. The competitive academy selection process looks at “contributions to innovative teaching and/or learning strategies; nursing education research; faculty development activities; academic leadership,” and more.
Foronda’s strong commitment to trailing innovative technology has also given her the opportunity to work in a collaborative research project with Michael Melia, MD, from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and JHSON’s Instructional Designer Emily Jones, to develop a smartphone app that evaluates clinical teaching in real-time. The project, “Improving Resident Teaching Evaluations with a Smartphone App: Moving from the ‘End of Morning Rounds,’” was awarded $50,000 from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions Institute for Excellence in Education.
For her many accomplishments, Foronda was also presented the Distinguished Alumni Award for Professional Achievement from her alma mater Cardinal Stritch University.
