Pamela Jeffries, DNS, RN, FAAN, ANEF has been named Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.  She comes to Johns Hopkins from Indiana University School of Nursing, where she held the position of Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs.

Jeffries is nationally known for her expertise in experiential learning and her innovative teaching strategies and delivery of content using technology and simulations in nursing education. She served as the project director for the national simulation study funded by the National League for Nursing and the Laerdal Corporation from 2003-2006 and is now the project director for a second NLN and Laerdal grant to develop nine web-based modules for faculty development in simulation. In addition, she has received multiple awards for teaching excellence, has numerous publications in teaching and research, and has received more than $1.5 million in grants, fellowships, and awards.
She currently is conducting a multi-site, cardiovascular study working with renowned researchers, Dr. Michael Gordon and Dr. Barry Issenberg from The Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education and the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami.  The research is focused on testing a deliberative practice curriculum using simulations to teach advanced practice nurses cardiovascular assessment, knowledge, and skills.  The study will be conducted at four different schools of nursing across the U.S. to help determine and validate if the deliberative practice curriculum using the Harvey simulator is an effective, efficient intervention to improve cardiovascular bedside skills of advanced practice nurses.

“I am very happy to be a part of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, working with stellar faculty, staff, and students to promote quality nursing education and research, says Jeffries.  “Johns Hopkins is one of the premiere nursing schools in the country and I look forward to contributing to the mission and vision of the nursing academic programs.”

“Dr. Jeffries and her credentials are truly impressive,” notes Dean Martha N. Hill, PhD, RN, FAAN.  “During this critical time, as we move toward greater productivity and enhanced efficiencies throughout the school, the university, and the health system, Dr. Jeffries brings the experience and knowledge we need to ensure that the quality of our academic programs endures.”
