Home based intervention, an increasingly popular public health strategy, is the focus of a Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing program on Friday, December 9, 2005, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in Room 10.

Home Based Intervention Colloquia will facilitate a dialogue between new and expert researchers, fostering collaborations to promote home based interventions and build healthier communities. Home based interventions are an effective strategy for accessing traditionally “hard to reach” or otherwise vulnerable populations. Evaluations of the effectiveness of this strategy across multiple settings are ongoing.

Four keynote speakers will be followed by a panel of experts from the Johns Hopkins University Schools of Nursing, Public Health, and Medicine:

Home Based Interventions for Vulnerable Populations
Linda Pugh, PhD; Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing

Home-Based Services for Pregnant and Parenting Women: Challenges & Future Directions
Darius Tandon, PhD; Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Home Interventions: Are They Cost Effective?
Arlene Butz, PhD; Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Home-Based Family Support Programs: Assuring Fidelity & a Family Focus
Anne Duggan, SCD; Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Philip Leaf, PhD of the Bloomberg School of Public Health will moderate the expert panel, consisting of Hopkins faculty members Marian Batts-Turner, MSN, RN; Frederick Brancati, MD; Lee Bone, MPH, BSN; Lynda Burton, SCD; Tina Cheng, MD, MPH; and Linda Pugh, PhD.

Home Based Intervention Colloquia is sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing Center for Collaborative Research; the Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence; and the Baltimore DC Research Center on Child Health Disparities. To register for this free workshop, contact Laura Neuberger at 410-502-1181 or [email protected].

The Center for Collaborative Intervention Research (CCIR) is the newest Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing initiative to advance health science by designing and testing effective health interventions. Funded by an NIH National Institute of Nursing Research Center Core (P30) grant, the CCIR fosters multidisciplinary investigations and provides an environment for scientists to enhance collective productivity by building intellectual and physical resources.
