Helene Grady To Lead Hopkins Nursing Finance and Administration

Helene Grady, formerly Deputy Director of Finance for the City of Baltimore, is the new Associate Dean for Finance and Administration at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHUSON).

Grady, who assumed her responsibilities as Associate Dean on March 15th, will serve as the SON chief financial officer, providing strategic leadership and oversight for the School’s financial and select administrative operations.  In her new role, she will work collaboratively with the leadership of the SON and the university to address their missions, values, and strategic goals, along with those of the nursing profession.

According to SON Dean Martha Hill, PhD, RN, FAAN, “Grady’s public policy and finance background, her experience managing large and complex systems, and her engaging interpersonal style will bring a fresh perspective to the School.”  Hill added, “She has demonstrated her capacity to translate her experience and accomplishments outside higher education in finance, grants, and service provision in ways that will bring energy, vision, and insight to the policy, administrative, and resourcing challenges now facing the School.”

Prior to joining the JHUSON leadership team, Grady oversaw the day-to-day operations and $28 million operating budget of the City of Baltimore Finance Department and its six bureaus.  Grady also held positions in the administration of Philadelphia Mayor Edward G. Rendell and with Amtrak. Prior to her government service in Philadelphia, she served as staff to President Clinton’s Working Group on Welfare Reform, a special task force whose work resulted in the introduction of the President’s June 1994 Work and Responsibility Act.

In her new position, Grady looks forward to working with Dean Hill and her leadership team to further the Dean’s vision for the School of Nursing.  She adds, “I am excited by the opportunity to be a part of the critically important work that the School of Nursing carries out here in East Baltimore and around the world.”

Grady holds a BA in English from La Salle University and an MPP from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.  She was a 1992 recipient of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship.  A resident of Baltimore City, Grady lives in the Roland Park neighborhood with her husband and two children.  Her volunteer activities include serving as a member of the board of the College Savings Plans of Maryland.
