Neville Strumpf, PhD, RN, FAAN, a well known nurse educator and researcher, will be the graduation speaker at the 2010 Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHUSON) Diploma and Awards Ceremony on May 27, 2010.
Strumpf has revolutionized nursing practice and end-of-life care through her research in assisted living facilities and hospitals. Her work has led to the reduced use of restraints on frail elders and illustrates how nurses can improve the quality and efficiency of health care when given the proper resources and support.
Strumpf’s ongoing research focuses on individualized care for frail older adults, including restraint-free care, quality of life for older cancer patients, access to services for refugee elders, end-of-life care in nursing homes, and prevention of falls. Most recently, through a National Institute on Aging study, Strumpf tested the feasibility of a home-based intervention to prevent functional decline and repeated falls among elderly inner-city African Americans. She is currently a professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

The School of Nursing Diploma and Award Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at The France-Merrick Performing Arts Center in downtown Baltimore for all 2010 graduating students and their guests.
