JoAnne Silbert-Flagg’s scholarship focuses on promoting breastfeeding from pregnancy through weaning via direct patient care and the education of health care professionals. Dr. Silbert-Flagg is on the editorial review board of the Journal of Human Lactation. She received the AJN Book of the Year Award, Second Place, for her publication: Maternal and Child Health Nursing: Care of the Childbearing and Childrearing Family, 9th edition published by Wolters Kluwer. She is co-editor of the 8th edition of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide: Primary Care, 2025, Jones and Bartlett. She is co-editor for the upcoming editions of Seidel’s Guide to Physical Examination, An Interprofessional Approach (Textbook and Handbook), 2026, published by Elsevier. She is co-author of the NAPANP Position Paper Statement on Breastfeeding published in the Journal of Pediatric Health Care (2024). She is past-chair of the Breastfeeding Expert Panel for the American Academy of Nursing. She provides primary care as a pediatric nurse practitioner (CPNP) and certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) at Columbia Medical Practice. She co-developed the JHUSON Breastfeeding Practice and Research course, one of the few International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) approved-graduate-leveled online lactation courses, which nearly 240 students have completed and receive continuing education credits for (CERPS). She co-teaches Community Perspectives on the Childbearing process to prepare students for the role of birth companions. She has developed and provided lactation simulation experiences for Masters Entry Students. Dr. Silbert-Flagg is the Associate Dean for Clinical Practice.
