Overview

Erin Spaulding’s research expertise includes primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, implementing digital health interventions (DHIs) for chronic disease management, assessing user engagement with DHIs, improving digital literacy among older adults, promoting health and digital equity, and human-centered design methodology. Dr. Spaulding is currently a co-investigator in the Center for Mobile Technologies to Achieve Equity in Cardiovascular Health within the American Heart Association Strategically Focused Health Technologies and Innovation Research Network. Dr. Spaulding has been a recipient of multiple awards for her research including the Breaking Barriers through Telehealth Award, W. Leigh Thompson Excellence in Research Award, Stanley L. Blumenthal Cardiology Research Award, and First Place in Original Research Award at the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association Symposium. Dr. Spaulding completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, a PhD from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, and a BSN from the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Spaulding also has prior experience as an intensive care unit nurse at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (NH) Medical Center. Dr. Spaulding is committed to developing and evaluating innovative interventions that support individuals and families in cardiovascular disease prevention, tailoring the DHI onboarding experience for individuals with varying levels of digital health literacy to promote health equity, and tailoring DHIs for older adults and their caregivers to promote health equity and prevent disease and declines in independence and quality of life.
