Simone Chinnis is dedicated to advancing equity, cultivating cultural humility, employing innovative methods to ensure workforce readiness, and utilizing technological advancements in academia and clinical practice. This tripartite focus remains evident throughout Chinnis’ experience in healthcare. Before becoming a provider, Chinnis worked in research as a nurse, consultant, and the University of Miami’s Clinical Research Center manager. As a provider, Chinnis underwent training at rural and urban federally qualified health centers. She practices at a clinic grounded in cultural humility and possesses strong community partnerships to meet patient needs.
Chinnis, possessing synchronous and asynchronous experience in academia, has led numerous task forces, didactic initiatives to add health equity to coursework, and served as both the inaugural Director of Community Engagement and the Executive Director of The Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse TechNology-Enhanced Residency (PARTNER) Program at a former academic institution. In the latter role, her interprofessional team:
- Advanced behavioral health equity in South Carolina by increasing access to care through telehealth.
- Enhanced workforce readiness for novice PMHNP-BCs through remote clinical mentorship.
- Worked collaboratively with primary care providers to improve the management of chronic conditions.
