Shawna Mudd, a primary and acute care certified pediatric nurse practitioner, has dedicated her career to the health of children, especially the vulnerable. Beginning as an RN in the pediatric ICU and then a PNP in the pediatric ED, she pioneered the NP child abuse consultant role at Johns Hopkins. Her clinical work spans emergency care, specialized primary care for children of mothers with substance use disorders, and primary care with Johns Hopkins Community Physicians. These clinical experiences have informed her teaching at the SON.
Dr. Mudd’s current focus is on shaping the future of nursing education and practice. Her scholarship is centered upon nurse practitioner scope-of-practice trends and simulation for competency development. She is actively involved in curriculum development, design, and evaluation, and has a keen interest in the business of health care.
