Dr. Matthew R. D’Angelo is a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), educator, and retired military officer (Colonel) with over three decades of service in clinical practice, academic leadership, and national defense. He currently serves as the Director for the Johns Hopkins University Nurse Anesthesia Program. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Chief of the Division of Nurse Anesthesia at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Dr. D’Angelo began his career in healthcare after enlisting in the Army in 1992, later earning his BSN from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He advanced his education with a Master of Science from Georgetown University in 2001 and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in 2002. He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2008, focusing on fluid resuscitation. In addition to his nursing expertise, Dr. D’Angelo earned master’s degrees in medical education, and National Security Strategy.
Dr. D’Angelo has developed a unique expertise blending education, anesthesia, military science, nursing, healthcare, strategy, and strategic engagement. He has more than 20 publications and delivered numerous podium presentations. He was inducted in the inaugural class of Fellows for the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (2021).
