Erin Spaulding’s research expertise includes improving digital literacy among older adults, promoting health and digital equity, implementing digital health interventions (DHIs) for chronic disease management, assessing user engagement with DHIs, primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, and human-centered design methodology. Dr. Spaulding is Principal Faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, Center for Equity in Aging; Associate Faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research; and the Director of the Long-term Wearable Study Core in the ARIC Neurocognitive Study (ARIC NCS) Renewal (2024-2028). She is also a co-investigator in the Center for Mobile Technologies to Achieve Equity in Cardiovascular Health within the American Heart Association Strategically Focused Health Technologies and Innovation Research Network.

Dr. Spaulding has been a recipient of multiple awards for her research including the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Center for Equity in Aging Pilot Award, Maryland Higher Education Commission New Nurse Faculty Fellowship, Breaking Barriers through Telehealth Award, W. Leigh Thompson Excellence in Research Award, Stanley L. Blumenthal Cardiology Research Award, and First Place in Original Research Award at the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association Symposium.

Dr. Spaulding completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, a PhD from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, and a BSN from the University of New Hampshire. Dr. Spaulding also has prior experience as an intensive care unit nurse at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (NH) Medical Center. Dr. Spaulding is committed to designing and testing innovative digital and health equity interventions to improve chronic disease management and healthcare access among the oldest old (80+ years) and their caregivers.
