Dr. Alexander Halstead is an Instructor in the DNP Nurse Anesthesia Track at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, specializing in preoperative optimization, enhanced recovery, resuscitation, regional anesthesia, and diagnostic point-of-care ultrasound. He brings extensive clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, where he previously served as the departmental director of Geriatric Surgery and Enhanced Recovery programs. Dr. Halstead maintains an active clinical practice, where he provides care for diverse patient populations, including orthopedic, obstetric, and pediatric cases. His commitment to education has been evident since 2022 when he became adjunct faculty for the DNP Nurse Anesthesia Track, contributing his knowledge and experience to the next generation of nurse anesthetists. He has been full-time with the program since 2024.

Dr. Halstead’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, followed by a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Maryland Baltimore. He further enhanced his qualifications by earning a post-graduate certificate in family primary care from the University of Massachusetts Boston. This combination of academic achievement and practical experience has shaped Dr. Halstead into a well-rounded educator and practitioner, making significant contributions to nursing education through his innovative approaches and dedication to improving patient care outcomes.
