Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Ranked No. 1 by U.S. News & World Report

or

U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) as the No. 1 accredited graduate nursing school program in the country in its 2017 survey. In addition, the school’s Doctor of Nursing (DNP) program was ranked No. 2 in the first-ever DNP rankings by U.S. News & World Report

“This has been a tremendous year for our school,” says Patricia Davidson, PhD, MEd, RN, FAAN, dean of the JHSON. “We launched the first U.S. DNP cohort in Saudi Arabia, and remained strategically focused on cultivating excellence within our programs and advancing our research funding. It’s exciting to see the DNP added to the rankings as nursing leadership has become imperative to meeting the needs of changing populations and healthcare systems.”

Placing higher this year in many specialty areas, the school also ranked:

JHSON—once again ranked as the top school of nursing for NIH and other research funding —received numerous grants this year in the areas of aging, HIV/AIDS, intimate partner violence, patient safety, palliative care, and much more. The school also took major steps in furthering its commitment to Baltimore through an endowed chair that specifically focuses on community health.

Other notable achievements include expanded interprofessional collaborations with the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins schools of medicine and public health, a 100 percent pass rate among students taking nurse practitioner certification exams, and doubling of the PhD programenrollment.

“Our leadership reach in local and global nursing has expanded significantly because of our innovative and extraordinary faculty, students, and alumni,” says Davidson, who was named the most influential nursing dean in the U.S. by Mometrix in 2015.

“By reflecting on the rankings, we can celebrate our successes but more importantly we need to stay focused on new opportunities to lead and grow not only our school but the nursing profession. We look forward to another year of achievement and excellence in nursing education, practice, and research.”

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are conducted annually and are determined through a weighted average of factors including peer review, student selectivity and assessment, faculty resources, and research activity. JHSON is No. 6 in the U.S. News & World Report online graduate nursing school rankings.
