Future nurse researchers now have more opportunities in the field of cardiovascular risk reduction and disease management research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
Through a grant from the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), four pre-doctoral students whose research interests are focused in cardiovascular health will be selected each year to receive funding of tuition fees, a stipend, and an allowance. The five-year grant–“Interdisciplinary Training in Cardiovascular Health Research,” will be directed by principal investigator professor and associate dean for research Jerilyn Allen, ScD, RN, FAAN. According to Allen, the training grant funding will provide outstanding opportunities for interdisciplinary training for nurses whose research interests are focused in cardiovascular health.
“Cardiovascular disease poses a serious risk to our population, and remains the largest cause of death in both men and women in this country,” Allen said. “If we hope to combat this disease, we need top-quality researchers and this funding will help prepare them.”
