Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHSON) associate professors Haera Han, PhD, RN; Linda Rose, PhD, RN; and assistant professor Christine Goeschel, ScD, MPA, MPS, RN have been named fellows in the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) for 2011.
Han, Rose, and Goeschel were among 142 nursing leaders from across the U.S. chosen for one of the most prestigious honors in nursing. Academy Fellows (FAAN) hold a variety of positions such as association executives; university presidents, chancellors, and deans; state and federal political appointees; hospital chief executives and vice presidents for nursing; nurse consultants; and researchers and entrepreneurs. Han, Rose, and Goeschel will be inducted at the Academy’s 38th Annual Meeting Conference on October 11, 2011, in Washington, DC.
As a community health researcher and director of the PhD program, Han works to reduce health disparities by implementing and evaluating community outreach programs in cancer control and cardiovascular health promotion for ethnic minorities. One of the first researchers funded through the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing Center for Collaborative Intervention Research, she has served as a principal investigator of federally-funded research focused on cancer control among Korean women and as a co-investigator and consultant on other investigations concerning smoking cessation, diabetes, and health literacy among minorities.
Rose, former Director of the JHSON Baccalaureate Program, has played an active role in shaping the curriculum for tomorrow’s nurses. Her research, teaching, and clinical interest is centered in psychiatric nursing, specifically serious mental illnesses and their effects on families. She teaches both psychiatric mental health and research courses for the baccalaureate program.
Goeschel is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Strategic Development and Research Initiatives for The Quality and Safety Research Group (QSRG) in the School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. She holds joint appointments in the JHSON, Division of Health System Outcomes, and in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management, where she co-developed and teaches a course on quality and patient safety to students in the Master of Hospital Administration program.
The AAN was founded in 1973 under the aegis of the ANA. Currently, with 1,500 members or Fellows the AAN has become an independent affiliate of the ANA. The Academy and its members strive to create and execute knowledge-driven and polity-related initiatives to drive reform of America’s health care system.
