Last month, the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHUSON) welcomed 119 students as the 25th traditional class.
On August 27, the JHUSON honored the 25th traditional class with a garden party, and unveiled a portrait by local artist Robert McClintock depicting the JHUSON building. After opening remarks by Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Services Sandra Angell and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Pamela Jeffries, DNS, RN, FAAN, ANEF, students from the class of 2011 were quoted about their reactions to being the 25th class:
“I’m excited to see where the first class ended up and learn about the similarities they have with us.” – Courtney Clemmens
“It’s a privilege to be a part of a fantastic education program as well as health program. Its amazing how a school so young already has so many traditions.” – Mandy Wiese
“This anniversary year offers us an opportunity to stop, reflect, and think about our future,” notes JHUSON Dean Martha N. Hill, a member of the class of ’64 and one of the first faculty members at the University School of Nursing. “It’s quite amazing to be a part of all that’s occurred during the past 25 years. Its a dream come true for me, my colleagues, and all our alumni.”
Throughout 2009, JHUSON has collected stories and images from its They Must Be Hopkins Nurses project. Hopkins nurses throughout the world alumni, current students, and nurses from Johns Hopkins Hospital have shared their experiences through words and images. These stories will be featured in a special anniversary edition of Johns Hopkins Nursing.
