Five nurse managers from the United Arab Emirates are the latest group of international health care professionals to attend a rigorous two-week program at the Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing (IJHN) and its Nurse Manager Academy.
The visitors, who work at the Johns Hopkins-managed Tawam Hospital in the city of Al Ain (Abu Dhabi, UAE), first spent one week with their hosts – all Johns Hopkins nurse managers – in various hospital departments, including emergency, pediatric oncology, labor and delivery, and surgery. The second week the visitors engage with other participants at the Nurse Manager Academy, an intensive residential leadership development program.
Since 2000, Johns Hopkins has invited nurses from health care organizations in the United States and countries such as Bermuda, Singapore, China and the UAE to gain or upgrade management skills on nursing units and more broadly in hospital leadership.
Tawam Hospital is owned and operated by SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, which owns and operates all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
The Institute for Johns Hopkins Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers Commission on Accreditation.
