SON Associate Professor Kathi White has been named the first director of the new School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. White, who previously served as the programs interim director, currently directs the SON masters program, coordinating both the MSN health track and the MSN-MBA dual degree option. She will continue to lead the masters program until her successor is identified. Dean Martha N. Hill noted, “Dr. White brings a depth of experience and great commitment to the position. She was instrumental in attracting significant state support to the program and know she will continue her effective leadership of this new program.”
White also maintains a faculty practice appointment at Howard County General Hospital, where she serves as nurse research liaison, focusing on evidence-based practice initiatives. In response to her appointment, she noted “the DNP program uses an executive format with distance technology, is intense and very competitive. It has sparked a lot of interest from the nursing community and seems to be meeting a need.”
