February 13, 2008 Monday, February 18th the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing kicks off a three-day celebration of diversity. Special events and exhibits scheduled for February 18-20 focus on ethnic, cultural, and spiritual diversity and include:
Monday, February 18
International Exhibits, All Day, February 18-20, Carpenter Room – Displays depicting international experiences as hosted by Returning Peace Corps Fellows, students and faculty.
Special Exhibits, 11:30 am-1:30 pm, Carpenter Room – Faculty and students present posters. Research, and experiences in addressing:
Health Care Disparities
Men in Nursing
Faith Community Nursing
Food Vendors, 11:30 am-1:30 pm, Front Lobby – Local vendors selling ethnic edibles. CASH ONLY.
Opening Remarks, Dean Martha Hill, 12:30 pm, Front Lobby
African Drummers and Dancers, 12:45 pm, Cafe Area
Nurses Go Global, 5:00-7:00 pm, Rooms 9 and 10 – A panel of presentations describing the global nursing experience.
Tuesday, February 19
Volunteering Abroad, 12:15-1:15 pm, Rooms 9 and 10 - International volunteers Sandra Dietzel, Operation Smile, and Seska Romberg, Art of the Children of the Tsunami, discuss their programs and volunteer work.
Wednesday, February 20
Special Presentations, 11:00 am-1:30 pm, Carpenter Room:
Apostolic Towers Seniors – Students will share their art, writing, and experience with meditation.
Understanding Hearing Impairment – Meet a faculty member who has had a cochlear implant.
Enlighten the Night, 5:00-7:00 pm, Alumni Auditorium – Performances by students, faculty, and staff, preceded by dinner featuring a culturally diverse menu – Carpenter Room, 5:00 pm
The JHUSON Cultural Competency and Diversity Committee co-sponsors Honoring Diversity Week with the Returned Peace Corps Fellows, Alumni Association, and Nursing Students United for Advocacy and Action.
