In celebration of Black History Month, the Johns Hopkins University Black Student Nurses Association (BSNA) will note the achievements of African Americans in the nursing profession through a series of events and service opportunities.
Minority Fact Flyers
Throughout the month of February, flyers posted throughout the school depict the contributions of minority women and men to the health care professions.

Kente Stoles Sold for Commencement Ceremony

Kente Stoles to wear at the May commencement ceremony on sale for $20. The ceremonial cloths are hand-woven on a horizontal treadle loom by women in Ghana.
Virtual Baby Shower

Donations to a collection box on the 1st floor will help pregnant moms. Bottles, diapers, infant toiletries, toys, wipes, undershirts, hats, socks, and onesies are needed.
Reorganized in 2003, the BSNA is open to all students who support the organization’s objectives of encouraging minorities to enter the field of nursing, promoting professional growth and leadership through participation in professional nursing organizations, making connections and providing services to the surrounding Baltimore communities, and keeping members of the BSNA and SON community informed of emerging trends in health care and nursing.
BSNA activities scheduled for this year include establishing a mentoring program with students at Dunbar High School in East Baltimore, hosting an Alumni Luncheon for former minority Hopkins nursing graduates, and holding a state-wide forum with the Breakthrough Program of the Maryland Association of Nursing Students.
This year’s BSNA officers include students Kellye M. Nelson, President; Shaundrea Faulk, Vice President; Kimberly Hines, Secretary; Ellen Opoku, Treasurer; Patience Karikari, Membership Coordinator; Tiffany McFarlane, Special Events Coordinator (Senior); Susana Vega, Special Events Coordinator (Junior); and Elizabeth Austen, Historian. The faculty coordinator is Phyllis Sharps, PhD, RN, FAAN.
