To mark its 100th anniversary, the Church Home & Hospital (CHH) School of Nursing Alumni Association will present to the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing a check in the amount of $100,000.00 at a special event at the Hopkins School of Nursing on December 3, 2004 from 3:00 to 5:00pm. The funds will be used to establish the Freda Creutzburg Memorial Scholarship, named in honor of CHH director of nursing for 40 years. The scholarship will support the education of future Hopkins nurses.

The ceremony launches the landmark merger of two alumni associations as CHH School of Nursing alumni join the Johns Hopkins Nurses’ Alumni Association, bringing with them a rich history, fond memories, and a unique collection of archival artifacts.

Church Home & Hospital’s history and relationship with Johns Hopkins dates back to 1904, when it was established in East Baltimore just two blocks from the Johns Hopkins Medical Campus. In 1976, the CHH School of Nursing closed; the Hospital shut its doors in 1999. By joining the Johns Hopkins Nurses’ Alumni Association, the CHH School of Nursing Alumni Association aims to “secure a future for its past.”

The event is expected to draw both Church Home and Johns Hopkins alumni from across the nation. T.G. Whedbee, Jr., former CHH president and CEO, will also be in attendance.

Members of the media are invited to attend this event.  Please contact Ming Tai at 410-614-5317 or [email protected].
