The Office of Marketing and Communications at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing is dedicated to effectively sharing the impactful initiatives and research of our school. Through strategic communication outreach and comprehensive multiplatform marketing, our team works to enhance awareness, amplify visibility, encourage meaningful action, and cultivate strong engagement within our diverse audiences.

Our team

Tammy Berwanger, MS

Assistant Dean, Marketing & Communications

Tammy L. Berwanger, MS, Assistant Dean of Marketing and Communications, joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHSON) in 2015. She provides more than 25 years of experience focusing on local, national and global integrated business, advertising, marketing and branding, and strategic communications. Berwanger brings a track record of award-winning promotional campaigns using digital and traditional marketing platforms that position JHSON as an industry leader, penetrate new and existing markets, and increase ROI.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, she served as the Director of Marketing for HCA Healthcare’s Henrico, Parham & Retreat Doctors’ Hospitals and Hanover and West Creek Emergency Centers in Richmond, VA (HCA Healthcare is a Fortune 100 company). There she led all marketing, advertising, media relations, and event planning for the facilities and for many divisional headquarter initiatives. Previously, Berwanger led the social media, events, and video marketing efforts at Virginia Commonwealth University where her video production work included an Emmy-winning local television series. Before joining VCU, Berwanger served in various marketing roles, including Corporate Event Coordinator with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Assistant Director of Marketing at Allied Capital Corporation, and Account Coordinator at Ogilvy PR Worldwide.

Berwanger received both her Master of Science in Marketing and Strategic Public Relations and her Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.

Meredith Medina

Senior Events Planner

Meredith is the Senior Events Planner in the Dean’s Office at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Leveraging her extensive experience, she expertly orchestrates special events, managing every detail from planning to execution, including procurement, vendor collaboration, and budget oversight. Meredith facilitates seamless communication with SON Facilities, Marketing and Communications, and IT teams to optimize event setups and promotional materials. She has spearheaded process improvements and implemented policies to enhance event efficiency and consistency. Additionally, she leads a Professional Learning Community to foster collaboration among event organizers.

Meredith began her events career at Syracuse University in the alumni office, where she assisted in coordinating homecoming weekend, on-campus sesquicentennial events, and alumni engagement events nationwide. Following her tenure at Syracuse, she moved to Salt Lake City and served as the Events and Communications Coordinator for the International and Area Studies (IAS) program at the University of Utah. In this role, she collaborated with faculty to create successful gatherings for the four Centers/Programs and managed content dissemination across social media, email platforms, and campus advertisements. She also enhanced the IAS website and maintained event advertising and calendars. Meredith holds a BA in Sociology from North Carolina State University.
