Dr. Anna Song Beeber PhD, RN, FAAN, FGSA is an Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She serves as a Steering Committee Member and Principal Faculty in the Center for Equity and Aging at the JHU School of Nursing where her work intersects gerontological nursing, health services research, and quality of care. Dr. Beeber is dedicated to enhancing long-term care settings and is recognized as an expert in community-engaged research, creating toolkits tailored for older adults, family caregivers, and long-term care staff. Dr. Beeber has expertise in care of older adults living with dementia and has conducted several studies to improve the quality of life, and quality of care for these individuals. An international research leader in gerontological nursing and health services, Dr. Beeber is committed to improving the quality and safety of long-term care for older adults and the quality of their everyday lives. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the Gerontological Society of America, and has received funding from the John A. Hartford Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ).
Dr. Beeber has conducted studies to examine the relationship among staffing, service availability, and quality of care outcomes in assisted living, improving the identification and management of medical illnesses by caregivers of older adults with dementia, and antibiotic stewardship in nursing homes. At present, she is the Principal Investigator (PI) for an R01 study (1 R01 HS026473-01) titled “A Safer Assisted Living: Creating a Toolkit for Person and Family Engagement.” Funded by AHRQ for $1,500,000, this study employs participant engagement strategies including older adults and caregivers to develop a toolkit aimed at increasing resident and family engagement in the safety of assisted living.
Her impact extends beyond research, as Dr. Beeber, in her role as the Associate Dean for Faculty Development, passionately supports the development and retention of faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Committed to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and mentorship, she shares her extensive experience in mentoring and advising faculty on various aspects of career development, scholarly writing, time and workload management, grant writing, and work-life balance. Dr. Beeber’s influence resonates locally, nationally, and internationally, reflecting her dedication to shaping the next generation of nursing students and scholars.
