Mapping and Mobilizing Evidence to Advance Development of Outcomes for Wellness and Safety

Mission

The MEADOWS Lab advances research on the development, testing, and implementation of social and behavioral interventions that promote safety, prevent harm, and support recovery from violence. We study the mechanisms that drive effective change and translate research into practical solutions that improve outcomes for individuals and communities affected by interpersonal violence.

Vision

We envision a world where evidence-informed interventions are accessible, equitable, and responsive to the diverse needs of individuals and communities affected by violence. Guided by the principles of collaboration, equity, and empowerment, the MEADOWS Lab bridges research and practice through partnerships with survivors, community organizations, practitioners, and policymakers. Our work advances intervention science, strengthens systems of care, and seeks to improve outcomes for individuals and communities affected by both interpersonal and structural forms of violence—including those who experience harm and those whose actions perpetuate it.

Meet our Team

Director

Dr. Bushra Sabri is the Director of the Meadows Lab, where her work focuses on understanding and preventing interpersonal violence, as well as promoting recovery from its effects. Her research examines lifetime experiences of violence, including intimate partner violence, and their impacts on health and wellbeing. She has led and co-led numerous funded studies identifying risk and protective factors and developing interventions that prevent violence and support healing. Her work emphasizes translating research into practical solutions that enhance safety and improve outcomes for individuals and communities affected by violence. She is particularly interested in uncovering the mechanisms that drive effective change and in designing culturally informed strategies to prevent future violence, injury, and homicide. Through her leadership, the Meadows Lab fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to advance equitable, community-centered approaches to violence prevention and recovery across the lifespan.
