Degrees are conferred in August, December, or May of each year depending on when degree requirements are met. If you are in a dual degree program, you must complete the requirements of both programs before applying for graduation.

Degree completion ceremonies for the School of Nursing are held in May and August, and the University Wide Commencement is also held in May. Information regarding the degree completion ceremony and diplomas can be found below. If you have any questions, reach out via email at [email protected] and stay updated by visiting the SON Graduation Page.

Instructions and reminders to apply for graduation will be emailed to students who are anticipated to graduate that semester. All students must submit a graduation/conferral application in the semester they are completing their degree.

Degrees are typically mailed within 8-12 weeks after degree conferral. Please check the Academic Calendar for official dates of degree conferral.

To make sure your diploma is mailed to the correct address, please take a moment and log into SIS self-service account to review your current diploma mailing address. Your address information can be found on the “Summary” screen under the “Personal Info” tab. If you need to change or provide your diploma mailing address, please do so by clicking the “edit” link and making the necessary updates. Johns Hopkins University utilizes Tassel (formerly Marching Order) for commencement ceremonies. Information about Tassel will be emailed to students after the graduation application deadline has passed, and your response is required! If you plan to walk across the stage, please create your account and confirm your attendance. Tassel enables students to record their names to help the announcer pronounce them correctly during the ceremony.

The Office of International Services at JHU provides guidance for family and friends from abroad who wish to visit and/or attend a JHU international students’ commencement ceremony.

Guests may apply for a B-2 visa from the United States consulate nearest to the place of their residence. The Student Records Office and the OIS do not provide invitation letters. Instead, OIS provides suggestions for documentation that may be included with a visa application. If you would like to include an enrollment verification as documentation, these can be accessed through SIS Self-Service, or by submitting a ticket through SEAM.
