Balkys Bivins

Biography

Balkys Bivins graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Miami and earned a PhD in nursing at Barry University. Her extensive experience as a family nurse practitioner includes working at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and as a member of the faculty for the graduate program at the University of Miami School of Nursing. Dr. Bivins is currently earning an accelerated Post-Master’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, while engaged in timely research on access to health care in marginalized communities during the pandemic and the impact of COVID-19 on stress levels of college students in the U.S. Born in Haiti but raised in the U.S., Dr. Bivins hopes to raise awareness on mental health issues and to explore the connection between mental health and diabetes in the context of culturally tailored care for the Haitian American community and other minority populations.
