August kicks off our annual recruitment season and brings so much excitement to the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing’s Office of Admissions. We are thrilled that you have decided to take this step toward advancing your career and that you are considering pursuing your graduate education at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON). We understand that the application process to graduate school can be lengthy and nerve-wracking. We are here to help relieve your anxiety!
Application Process and Deadlines
All students applying to a program at the JH SON must apply through the centralized application service known as NursingCAS. All application information (e.g., official transcripts, written statements, resumes/CVs, etc.) must be provided through NursingCAS. This is also where your recommenders will upload their letters of support for your application. All material submitted directly to NursingCAS then goes through a verification process as part of the application review.
It is important to review application deadlines for your program of interest. A key component to submitting a competitive application includes meeting these application deadlines. Several of our programs have an early deadline and a priority deadline. Please note that the only difference in these deadlines is when you hear a decision. If you apply by the November 1 deadline, we will release decisions towards the end of January. If you apply by the priority deadline, we traditionally release those decisions towards the end of March. Students applying for the Spring MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) Entry into Nursing priority deadline would hear their decision on a rolling basis.
All advanced programs, including the MSN Healthcare Organizational Leadership, DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) Advanced Practice, DNP Executive, and PhD, have a faculty interview component to their application. If you are selected for interviews, the Office of Admissions will contact you to coordinate your interview. Please note that it can take anywhere between four to six weeks after the application deadline and application verification for this notification. Most interviews are virtual; however, we do provide in-person interview days with current faculty for those selected to interview for the PhD program.
Engage with the Office of Admissions
The Office of Admissions offers many opportunities for you to connect with us both in-person and virtually. Through workshops, blogs, and information sessions, you can gain additional insight into the requirements of your interested program and receive general guidance throughout the admissions process.
Do you want to know if we are on the road recruiting in your area? Please check out our webpage. Our recruitment team travels all over the country and we would love an opportunity to meet you in person!
Throughout the upcoming year, our recruitment team will be hosting various virtual events. These events include information sessions about our many academic programs, and provide opportunities to engage with student panels to learn more about student experiences and ways you can get involved at JH SON beyond academics. Personally, my favorite virtual event is Diversity Dimensions. Here, we facilitate discussions surrounding the research, work, and experiences of underrepresented and historically marginalized communities. These sessions beautifully demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Through virtual and in-person information sessions, workshops, blogs/vlogs, conferences, and coffee chats, we strive to answer all your questions to ensure you have the resources to get to know us, learn about Baltimore and the Johns Hopkins community, and to submit your admissions application. We encourage you to attend to speak one-on-one with an admissions representative.
We are so excited to join you on this journey in advancing your education. Feel comfortable reaching out to our admissions and recruitment team, as we would be happy to assist!
