Taking prerequisites at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing offers flexible options since all the classes are online. Our courses are asynchronous, meaning you can complete them at your convenience, though there are weekly deadlines for assignments. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for students who are working full-time, as it allows them to decide when to work on their classes. By providing this level of adaptability, Johns Hopkins ensures that students can balance their academic pursuits with their professional and personal responsibilities. Our experienced instructors lead all classes, ensuring you receive the distinguished quality of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. They are there to guide and support you throughout your learning journey.
Each course spans 11 weeks, with 10 weeks dedicated to instruction and a final exam week. We offer 8 courses each during the fall, spring, and summer terms. Classes will be available a week before the semesters start. We recommend dedicating about seven to ten hours per week for non-lab courses and ten to fifteen hours for lab courses. All labs are virtual and include additional assignments to assess your mastery and application of the material. Each week, a module typically includes required readings, multimedia lectures, discussions, activities, and quizzes. Exams will also be conducted throughout the course.
Here are the prerequisites that we offer.
- Biostatistics (3 credits) *
- Human Growth and Development Through Lifespan (3 credits) *
- Nutrition (3 credits) *
- Anatomy with Lab (4 credits) *
- Biochemistry with Lab (4 credits)
- Chemistry with Lab (4 credits)
- Microbiology with Lab (4 credits) *
- Physiology with Lab (4 credits)
* Prerequisite needed for our MSN Entry into the Nursing Program.
Each credit costs $350, and three-credit classes cost $1050. If you are interested in taking a class with a virtual lab, it would be a four-credit class and cost $1400. Payment is due at the time of registration, and there is no payment plan. Since you are a non-degree seeker, federal financial aid is not available. First-time prerequisite students must complete an application to be able to complete course registration. Classes tend to fill up quickly, so apply and register early!
