Each year the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association’s Excellence in Teaching Award honors faculty members who have consistently demonstrated outstanding teaching skills, including preparation, organization, thoroughness, knowledge of subject, feedback, creativity, and inspiration. Students vote for faculty members.
This year’s winners of the Excellence in Teaching Awards are Dr. Krysia Hudson and Dr. Angela Capello. As part of the nomination process, shared testimonials on why these two are deserving of the award.

Krysia Hudson DNP, MS, BS, RN
Associate Director for Clinical Practice in the MSN program
“Dr. Hudson is amazing! She cares about her students and wants us to learn and do well. She is one of the most entertaining professors I have ever had and always wants to get to know us.”
Angela Capello PhD, MSN, RN
Assistant Professor
“Dr. Capello met me where I was and helped build me up. She adjusted her teaching approach and always encouraged real-time feedback when things weren’t working. Dr. Capello is an exceptional example of a teacher and more importantly an educator.”

The excellence of JHSON nurses has been recognized beyond the walls of the campus as well. Baltimore Magazine recognized two alumni of the DNP program as top nurses for 2025, Jenna Spencer, DNP, APRN, ACCNS-P, CPEN, and Symone Everett Day, DNP, ACCNS-AG, CCRN. This recognition is given to nurses working in the area every day to make patients’ lives healthier, safer, and happier.

At the School of Nursing, we are always striving for excellence, and it is heartwarming to see our faculty and alumni receiving the recognition they deserve for putting that excellence on display. Congratulations!
