Nurses and engineers have more in common than you think. For one thing, we believe in problem solving and teamwork.
The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing just announced a new interdisciplinary fellowship opportunity in conjunction with the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare, a division of the Johns Hopkins Whiting School for Engineering.
Current Johns Hopkins nursing and engineering PhD students can now apply. As a fellow, you will work with faculty in the school of nursing and in the Malone center on research that improves patient outcomes through:
- Implementation science
- Technologic innovation
- Systems modeling & optimization
One engineering student and one nursing student will be selected.
“I’ve been a nurse for 40 years and the same problems exist. It’s time to think about systems solutions instead of technical ones,” says Dean Patricia Davidson.
“I cannot imagine a better environment to figure out how medical professionals and engineers can come together to solve problems,” says Ed Schlesinger, Dean of the Whiting School of Engineering. “Amazing things are going to come out of this incredible opportunity.”
