School Related:

I’ve been here a couple more weeks and have really started to get the hang of things here at the SON and in Baltimore. We’ve had a test in each of our classes and I feel I have a better understanding of what is expected of me. Unlike in my experience in undergrad, the SON here at Hopkins really makes it clear what it is you need to do in order to succeed. The staff and faculty here understand that performing in labs and simulations is a learning experience. We are being asked to adapt a whole new way of thinking and presenting information and the staff and faculty work along with us to make sure we practice enough to feel competent performing these skills in a real life setting.

Outside of the classroom I have also begun to experience more of the Charm City. A few weekends ago I attended the Fells Point Festival. I enjoyed walking around the historic streets and taking in the people watching, live music, venders and interesting food.

Despite the unfortunate ending to the Oriole’s postseason last Friday, I had fun briefly jumping on the Oriole band wagon once the Red Sox were eliminated. I live about two blocks from Camden Yards and couldn’t help but get caught up in the series. I could practically follow the score of the games judging by the cheering I overheard. I enjoyed watching the O’s play the Texas Rangers at Pickles, a famous sports bar directly across from the stadium.

I also had the opportunity to try out some hot spots last weekend with some of my fellow nursing students. On Thursday we attended the Happy Hour at the Wit & Wisdom tavern located at the Four Seasons in Harbor East that JHU SONFit put on to support the American Heart Association.

We then headed over to Canton Square and enjoyed some delicious quesadillas and famous hubcap margaritas at Nacho Mama’s.

On Friday night we celebrated the completion of a test in each class and went out to Bond Street Social in Fells Point.

It was definitely nice to relax a bit and explore more of the city.
