Dean Emerita Patricia Davidson and Professor Emerita Phyllis Sharps received the American Academy of Nursing’s highest honors at the organization’s 2025 Health Policy Conference.
President’s Award
Patricia Davidson, PhD, MEd, RN, FAAN, is former Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and current Vice Chancellor’s Fellow and Interim Co-Director of the International Centre for Future Health Systems at the University of New South Wales, Sydney.
The President’s Award is the Academy’s highest individual achievement award, given to recognize a Fellow who has made extraordinary, lifelong contributions to improving the health of individuals, families, and communities. Dean Davidson’s research has focused on person-centered care delivery and improving quality of life for individuals with chronic and complex conditions. She has applied a special lens to the social determinants of health that affect health outcomes.
Living Legend
Professor Emerita Phyllis Sharps, PhD, RN, FAAN, was the Elsie M. Lawler Endowed Chair, associate dean for community programs and initiatives, the precursor to today’s COMPASS Center. Her career spanned four decades and she is best known for the developing DOVE, the Domestic Violence Enhanced Home Visitation program that supported the health of women of color impacted by intimate partner violence.
The American Academy of Nursing’s Living Legend distinction recognizes a Fellow who has made extraordinary contributions to nursing and global health. Dr. Sharps is only the fourth JHSON faculty to receive this honor, after Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell, Dean Martha Hill, and Dr. Fannie Gaston-Johansson.
