Advanced practice registered nurses in the midst of their doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program emerge on the Johns Hopkins scene. It’s immersion time.
Students in the DNP program, ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report, practice in different settings, from the Department of Veterans Affairs, to the biocontainment unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, to a Minute Clinic in California. The common thread? They’re experts in their space, identified a gap in how we deliver care, and are rising to the challenge.
Nurses in the DNP program prepare for nursing administration leadership—and learn to influence policy. To that end they traveled to Washington, DC for a session with the House Committee on Veteran’s Affairs and with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Policy division. They were accompanied by Dr. Kim McIltrot, DNP program director, Dr. Rita D’Aoust, soon to publish the first book on navigating the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Dr. Vinciya Pandian, associate director of the DNP Executive track.
They’re implementing the latest breakthroughs in evidence-based practice at home—California, to Chicago, Ohio, Oklahoma, and everywhere in between.
