The crowd at graduation today was full of family, friends, well-wishers… and the latest crop of Hopkins nurses setting out into the world to change health care systems for the better.
The keynote speaker was Ahrin Mishan, the Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation Executive Director. Under his leadership, the Foundation has built a pipeline of support for bold nursing-led models of care for vulnerable populations and nursing education across the nation.
He offered the nurse grads three pieces of advice:
1. Quick is fine, but deep is better
2. Be adventurous
3. Be loud
Next, student speaker, Elena Huang, an MSN (Entry Into Nursing) grad addressed the crowd. “We made it here because we already care, in action,” she said. “And going forward, as a Hopkins nurse, you know that worthwhile work begets hard work.”
Also honored today were Dr. Bryan Hansen and Dr. Sharon Kozachik. They received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association. The award is student-nominated; Dr. Kozachik’s students said, “When Dr. Kozachik says she’s your personal cheerleader, she means it!”
