Advocacy: The Right Prescription for Tough Times with Former Senator Barbara Mikulski

The Johns Hopkins chapter of Doctors for America, together with Johns Hopkins Schools of Nursing, Public Health, and Medicine, will present a Q&A discussion titled “Advocacy: The Right Prescription for Tough Times.” The program will feature a special guest, former Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski.

You can watch a live stream of the event February 14 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET.

The program will discuss how white coat professionals, like doctors, nurses, and researchers, can go from patient care to becoming active in politics. Dean Patricia Davidson will give the welcome address, Dr. Richard Bruno, a family and preventive medicine physician with Baltimore Medical Systems, will moderate the event, and Senator Mikulski will answer questions.

Maryland’s longest-serving U.S. senator, Senator Mikulski retired in early 2017 after completing her fifth six-year term. She was the primary sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, and in 2016 President Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Now Senator Mikulski is a Johns Hopkins “Homewood Professor,” a title reserved for individuals of international distinction and major accomplishment in their fields.
