What’s in YOUR Closet?
If you’re like me, you keep a lot of significant things in your private closet.
Some of us keep away our best attire, some our diaries and journals, and others our most prized collections and possessions.
But how many of you have a hippopotamus hiding in your closet?
Did you know that after the elephant and rhinoceros, the hippopotamus is the third-largest type of land mammal and the heaviest extant artiodactyl? (Wikipedia)
Have you like me been scared out of your witts when that once hidden and imagined “Hippo”
breaks down the closet door and emerges, revealing her amazing expanse and magnitude?
Well my Hippo’s name is Purppie.
Purppie the Purple Hippo!
So yeah, she’s the color I like to call “baby purple”, that perfect blend of pink and blue
predominant in our celebration of babies (often blue for boys and pink for girls).
But that’s not why she’s called Purppie.
Purppie is my new icon to remind me of…
We all have one.
The dreams, the visions, the aspirations we cherish.
The burning passion within that ultimately can’t be contained as she breaks down all limitations and barriers and becomes alive!
That thought that causes your heart to skip beats;
The yearning aching deep inside.
That intense desire to become!
I decided to make Purppie an integral part of my team this year to remind me of my WHY
and offer a hug during those times when I have to walk alone.
She’s a team member who I can take with me to most places!
Because of Purppie, I am reminded of a song I wrote called “What Am I Here For?“
It is an original song that has really become my theme song.
It is a rendering that may one day develop into our Passion and Purpose Project.
Please enjoy a few moments listening in. Key in to the lyrics and think about YOUR “Purppie” 🙂

I know that I am not alone when I say that I cannot wait for the fulfillment of PASSION and PURPOSE in my life!
But while we wait and work hard to obtain critical skills, tools, training and experiences here at
Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing,
Please share a brief moment with Purppie and have a hug!
Thanks for the opportunity to share,
