Advancing Patient Care

Fuld Fellows Begin Their Journey

by Jonathan Eichberger

IOm Recommendation 7The Helene Fuld Leadership Program will soon welcome twenty incoming Hopkins nursing students to receive special training as clinical nurse leaders to promote patient-care quality and safety. The Program builds on the strengths of the School of Nursing, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the new Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality to distinguish Johns Hopkins as a pioneer in patient-care safety and quality improvement.

Fuld Fellows
In the Helene Fuld Leadership program, these 20 students will receive special mentorship and training as clinical nurse leaders.

“Fuld Fellows will benefit from intensive training and applied experiences in clinical environments that will provide a solid foundation for advancing quality and safety throughout their careers,” notes associate professor Cheryl Dennison-Himmelfarb, PhD, RN, FAAN, director of the School’s Fuld Leadership Program. Dennison-Himmelfarb works closely with Program leaders and mentors to guide Fellows through their course of study and engage resources from across Hopkins to provide them with an exceptional experience.

Funded by a grant from the Helene Fuld Health Trust in New York, the Program focuses on older citizens who represent the majority of hospitalized patients. Fuld Fellows in Patient Care Quality and Safety will benefit from the unique advantages of interprofessional education at Johns Hopkins— which is home to the nation’s top-ranked hospital and highly-ranked schools of nursing, medicine, and public health—and will participate in the highest-quality health education, research, and patient care delivery.
