Dear School of Nursing Community,

As my retirement date of June 30, 2012, nears, I look back on my 27 years at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing with great fondness and tremendous gratitude. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to participate in both the early history of this wonderful School and to revel in its current status as a premiere institution for education, research, and nursing practice. It has been my good fortune to work with three deans—Carol Gray, Sue Donaldson, and Martha Hill—each of whom has created an enviable legacy on which future leaders can build. I’ve worked with wonderful faculty, staff, and alumni who have been dedicated to providing the best possible experience for our students.

And what can I possibly say about the students that adequately captures what they mean to me? They are the heart of the School. Their accomplishments, sacrifices, hard work, and contributions to the future of the nursing profession are a source of great pride and inspiration. I look forward to continuing my contact with them through the Alumni Association.

Thank you for all that each of you has done to make life at Hopkins such an enjoyable and enriching experience. I wish you every success and will remain a #1 fan!
